Christmas is around the corner, 55 days according to the Christmas countdown clock! And that means it is definitely time to start thinking, and actioning, your festive marketing plans for your cake business.
I tend to start thinking about my marketing around late October as my activity for The Vanilla Pod Bakery if fairly low key but that doesn’t mean to say yours should be! I have come up with seven fabulous ideas to help you promote your business in the build up to Christmas 2015.
- Send Printed Christmas Cards To Your Clients.
It is lovely to receive christmas cards, and to receive one from your cake designer would be totally unexpected! I send Christmas cards to all my current clients and I make sure that I personally sign them all, it is the little touches that count. You could even go the extra mile and pop a slice of Christmas cake with each card or a money off voucher for cakes ordered in January.
There are some brilliant online printers out there with easy to use design and printing services to help you cake awesome Christmas Cards, my favourites are Instantprint, MOO, and Vista Print.
- Create Exclusive Christmas Hampers
Utilise your baking talent to create exclusive Christmas hampers. There are so many different types of hampers that you could create, such as the Gluten Free Hamper, The Hamper for One, The Family Hamper, and the list goes on! As well as including your own bakes like Christmas cakes, mince pies and cookies, talk to local food producers and include their wares too.
Check out WBC Packaging for some super hamper packaging.
- December Advent Giveaway
Create fantastic prizes or special offers that you can giveaway over the advent period. Whether you do daily giveaways, weekly giveaways or somewhere in the middle the choice is yours. Be as creative as your can! Remember to promote your December Advent Giveaway on your social media pages, website, mailing list and even through printed flyers.
- Don’t Close For Christmas!
If you want to work over the Christmas period highlight the fact that you will still be creating cakes for all those December birthdays and celebrations. A lot of bakeries take the Christmas period off, so providing you don’t mind working over the festive season you could easily gain a competitive edge. Just remember to take some time off in January!
- Sell at Christmas Fairs, Fetes and Markets.
There are so many Christmas Fair around at this time of year. It may be a bit too late to book into the bigger fairs, however it is always worth ringing up to see if they have any late spaces.
This website has a great list of all the big UK Christmas Fairs and Markets.
- Host Christmas Themed Cake Decoration Classes
If you hold cake decorating classes then create a special Christmas themed class or host a Christmas evening event with short cake decorating demonstrations – glass of mulled wine optional! As Novemember is nearly upon us, you would need to start promoting this asap.
A brilliant and easy to use website for creating and promoting your event is Eventbrite.
- Create Your Own Christmas Themed Range of Cakes
Create three or four designs that are exclusive for Christmas 2015. Make sure you take clear photographs and promote your offering through word of mouth, social media, your website, mailing list, and even print if you have time. Your Christmas themed cakes don’t just have to be all about fruit cakes too, cupcakes are great for Christmas parties and to use as canapes.
Happy Baking and Promoting!
